SomeOtherPooma nah the British version, the L1A1 SLR or Self Loading Rifle was almost entirely made in Britain and it's Commonwealth as the standard-issue weapon of the armed forces at the time, and a rather excellent one at that, over a metre of 7.62mm wooden stocked power and accuracy, one of the best rifles ever used by the British Army to this day. Officially speaking they were semi-auto only (supposedly helped with accuracy and reducing ammo wastage) but clever soldiers found ways of restoring their full-auto capacity; however on the Falklands it was easier simply to pick up an Argentine rifle for this purpose as they were unmodified FN models with full auto still enabled anyway, and would fire the same ammo

SomeOtherPooma but yeah you're right about FN being the true winners regardless, British-built or not we still had to buy the licence to make 'em and Argentina just bought theirs straight from the buggers. It continues to this day, many of the pistols and machine guns Nato uses are still FN designs

XergeDevil well I guess we'll find out in about eighteen years, that's when the classification on documentation of the true events of that war should expire and any that haven't been released to the public yet should come out. Or alternatively you could send divers down where they claim to have sunk her to have a look as the sea's not that deep around there

Bird_Dog true enough, sadly. One of the reasons I'm concerned about the apparent lack of on-board defensive systems on the new Queen Elizabeth class carriers despite apparently being designed with the lessons of the Falklands War in mind, they can knock old Admiral Kusnetzov all they like but an Excocet wouldn't get near her

Christian Changer not with the public, not when we realised it wasn't gonna be Suez all over again and that we were actually gonna bloody fight this time, and fight we did and the celebrations after our victory were the biggest and most colourful and patriotic since the end of WW2

purple brain it was a lot more than one fucking 'bicycle division'

Juste un trou d'eau why do you think the British won, what with their semi-auto only ones and well-trained fire-discipline ;)

Lenn I never said they kept them did they, they sure as hell captured a fuck-load of them though along with the magazines to match, isn't completely unfeasible to think they'd occasionally have used them as well if only for a laugh or if in a real pinch and needing a touch of extra firepower- when the officers and NCO's weren't looking of course. Could always drop them again after and as for carrying two rifles they have shoulder-slings for a reason

Mischu Wischu well if it was your country I'm sure it would be 'bullshit' too? ;)
