Professor Ozpin those Ghurkas were and are straight-up part of the British army not mercenaries, they're true soldiers, recruited from Nepal in the Himalayas and part of an ancient people who unlike most of the rest of the old British Empire remain fiercely loyal to the British crown, and they've proven themselves time and time again as some of the deadliest warriors on Earth with a reputation the Argentines were RIGHT to fear. We didn't 'hire' them, we paid them wages (with added Kukri knife allowance haha)

Rage Raptor or how about fuck you, no, the Royal Navy holds it's damn ground in their own waters and you get the first real naval fight you've had in 70 years against an opponent with equal technological advancement and you lose a hell of a lot of ships and men trying to secure two tiny ice-cold islands

ASMR GentleMan they didn't just "do some good things as well", for all the conquest and bloodshed of those days being in and of itself bad things the British Empire also brought the ideas OF democracy, human rights, freedom of speech and freedom of the press to the world, along with more technological progress and innovation in a shorter space of time than any other nation on the face of the Earth- much of which came into being IN Britain itself, or would never have become the inventions we know without Britain, including the devices and electronic super-highway connecting them we're discussing this on right now. Oh and a little thing called ENDING SLAVERY. I'm not gonna pretend we never did anything wrong as a country, you don't create the largest empire in history that brought modern civilization, for good or ill to the four corners of the globe by being nice and polite about it all the time, despite the stereotype haha; but the GOOD things we did FAR outweigh any bad we DID do in my opinion and that's not ignorance or propaganda, that's my honest feeling DESPITE being well aware of the Empire's darker side

  7. jp codnia you realise that was an actual REAL WAR, small but brutal with over 900 real deaths on both sides right? I don't think we'd still be talking about it 35 years later if it was all spying and satellite reports, and in the actual boots-on-the-ground fighting it was definitely just the British and Argentinians

Rage Raptor true but they'd still be professionals and not conscripts, in terms of equipment were actually not that far behind our guys hardware-wise, and together WITH the aforementioned conscripts would outnumber the British forces by at least 5 to 1. Doesn't mean they'd win but it'd also not be as one-sided as the Argies like to make out. As it is when the elite 5th marines, the only professional soldiers on their side that DID fight ours in the conflict, went head-to-head with British paratroopers at Mount Longdon they gave a good account of themselves (they were, after all fighting in good defensive positions, unlike most of the conscripts were well-led, well-supplied, well-equipped and well-motivated and were fighting practically on their own doorstep against an enemy 8000 miles from home), but they were still eventually defeated

  10. ASMR GentleMan as for decolonisation conflicts that's a completely different sunject to colonisation ones and while our hands aren't exactly clean there they're sure as hell not as dirty as Spain's, France's, Portugal's, Japan's, Russia's or for that matter, Germany's

  13. steve samson so the fact you recently got to vote democratically for your freedom, lost by a very narrow margin and will get ANOTHER chance to before long makes you 'subjugated' does it?! I'M MYSELF half-Scottish, I don't feel like the English half of my family somehow stole or plundered the other half from anyone else! Name one genuinely subjugated people who've been offered a choice in the matter like that, it'd be like the Empire saying back in the day to other countries: "hey, wanna be part of our empire? You'll like it it's great! No? You sure? Oh well, ok then, let us know if you change your mind"
