If the USAF or anyone else over there suddenly doesn't want their F35's, give them to Britain, the RAF needs them a lot more than they bloody do, and in particular we need every flyable F35B we can lay our hands on

Whatever anyone else says about it and whatever the USAF may or may not end up going with, BRITAIN needs more F35's, F35B's specifically- solely so we can actually get full use out of our new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers, because like it or not, for better or worse those carriers just have been made the way they've been made, and the Lightning's quite simply the only jet fighter aircraft currently available that's actually suitable for operating from them, and we don't have enough yet and we need TO have enough to ever get our money's worth out of those ships. For better or worse things just are what they are, deal with it, make the best of a bad situation- we need to live with what we've chosen and keep buying more F35's (preferably all 138 we were originally supposed to be getting but at least 70 or so), expensive though they may be. Well either that or buy back a bunch of old Harriers or AV-8's instead I suppose haha (or even ex-Soviet Yak-38's I guess lol)

What's the Typhoon 2? Or do you just mean "better build more Typhoons too"?

@welshpete12 I dunno, it seems to have worked pretty well in the roles it's been put into so far, and yes it IS a Jack Of All Trades, that's what it was designed to be right from the start and what all the haters seem to forget, it was never supposed to be "better than an F22" or to particularly excel at being any one thing, just to be GOOD ENOUGH at just about everything, which is itself a big ask, but a requirement it seems to actually be meeting pretty well so far despite the constant claims to the contrary

@mandellorian a tanker-variant V-22 Osprey could do the job there at least, we're already buying some of those for special forces transport so a couple of tanker variant ones surely shouldn't be too much of a stretch. Even failing that we also have plenty of long-ranged land-based RAF tanker aircraft anyway, along with bases all over the world to operate them from, as well as lots of allies with assorted tankers of their own we can share if need be, and there's talk of fitting out a few Merlin helicopters for the role too

@mandellorian that part about the F35 having issues with going supersonic though, first I've heard of that about them, what's your source for that? They're not perfect by any means and not the fastest thing in the sky or anything sure, but they ARE still modern state-of-the-art stealth fighters, they should've been built right from the start to be able to do that much at least, and last I heard can do at least Mach 1.6? They also have a perfectly good payload too last time I checked, especially in quote "beast mode"?

@mandellorian hello?
