  19. There's ways you can deal with enemy submarines alright- submarines of your own! When CSG21 was going through the South China Sea they were stalked several times by Chinese subs, and every time one of our OWN state-of-the-art Astute-class nuclear attack submarines was there waiting for the buggers

Every few years some fancy new weapon or fancy new armour or fancy new uniform or some combination of the above comes out that's supposed to show us what the soldier of the future, the soldier of the 21st century will look like. And huge amounts of taxpayer money certainly goes into this stuff, but it never seems to ultimately lead to a soldier actually wearing or carrying any of it into battle though, instead when the sound of actual real battle calls it always, without fail seems to ultimately go back to sending in a dude in camo gear and a helmet with an M4, or some pretty small variation thereupon. If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess?

  33. The '280' was certainly one of, if not the most powerful projectile weapons ever made but it wasn't biggest or heaviest, not sure where he got that part from, battleship naval cannons have definitely been larger as have railway guns from WW2

  34.  @PilotPhotog  while obviously any sufficiently large aircraft carrier and her aircraft can and should have capabilities like that, just as the American ones do, they shouldn't have to be relied on as the sole source for it, or being used to hunt down pirates or escort tankers or patrol round oil rigs or fishing grounds, a full-sized fleet carrier's job first and foremost is to BE a full sized fleet carrier, to be the flagship, leading the way and providing support where needed, and let other, dedicated ships, among the same carrier group or the same fleet perform the lion's share of those roles. Somehow we need to find money and crews and resources for more ships

And APART from the engine which is indeed a very poor design and which we'll readily admit, what else is so bad about it? We've made far worse in the past and other countries have made worse still

Heard they're phasing them out, some penny-pinching idiots in the government think just the new L85A3 and L129 rifles will be enough by themselves it seems so they've gotten rid of the LSW and are talking about getting rid of ALL the handheld MG's

  53. Got a really detailed fairly large-scale model of a British Royal Navy F4 my late father made so have something of a sentimental thing for this big ol' beast

  54. Two regiment's worth, with maybe a third if the older Challenger 2's in reserve "mothballs" were activated too in an emergency, 250 tanks tops, with only 148 of them Challenger 3's. Not as many as I'd like but it's a hell of a lot better than no tanks at all, and of course that's 148 of arguably the best Western MBT in the world, thing's gonna be an absolute BEAST (strongest armour, best gun, newest ammo, most advanced up-to-date systems) and backed up by THOUSANDS of Abrams, Leclerc's and Leopards in almost every possible conflict involving them, little thing called Nato haha. Plus at the end of the day it's not as if Britain's in much danger of a land-invasion being a bloody island is it haha, so it makes sense to send the majority of the money to the Navy and RAF instead, but while still keeping at least SOME tanks for contribution to overseas conflicts
