  2. He meant that wealth in America is open, and people are mostly proud of what they’ve achieved. Whilst in Ukraine big wealth comes from corruption, oppression or some sketchy activities, so the rich people need to “hide” behind the tall fences with security. Plus there’s another story of socialism in the past, when all (back at the time) rich households had to give all their property away. It’s complicated and it might not make sense to everybody, but Peter lived in Ukraine and felt how “toxic” wealth is there
