Meeting people outside of dating apps, bars and nightclubs has become a social taboo. At best, you'll be advised to use the apps. At worst, you could come across as suspicious and ruin your reputation in the community ("poisoning of the well").

Meeting people in real life for dating has become a social taboo. Until that changes, the apps will be the only game in town.

@ The statistics for how people meet their significant other suggests otherwise. Everything bar online, bars and nightclubs (pre-2020) has fallen off a cliff statistically.

@ Not according to the data from Rosenfield et al - Disintermediating your friends: How Online Dating in the United States displaces other ways of meeting.

Hypergamy not real? I know of evolutionary psychologists who may disagree but would agree that the concept of hypergamy is misused by online commentators. In terms of the data, I'd point toward the model created by Memeable Data on YouTube. Whom took into account physical attraction and status. That is where the stark difference is. And in terms of online dating, people do have a love hate relationship with them. But then we get back to the problem - what's the alternative?

@bradyburmeister6064 Things are going the other way round - close all avenues except within a relationship. There is legislation coming about in the US states now to this end.

1 in 5 women would report a man who asked them out to an authority figure according to a survey done by DatePsychology who posts videos on this subject on YouTube. Women don't want to be approached and asked out by unattractive men. There is a innate discomfort and disgust feeling that comes from a lower status male approaching a woman - it questions her value and self-esteem. Which is where the "creepiness" of it comes from.

@ TL;DR - don't be unattractive. If you are physically unattractive, you can simply change your genes at the gy... oh.

@biteofdog It's the best way we have of providing a scientific basis regarding human nature. Certainly far more so than the commentators on video platforms online.

"Childless cat ladies" don't get called threats to national security by the UK Prime Minister as happened recently to their male counterparts post the tragic events in Stockport.

@Lamonticus We know from both the figures and the mass number of videos online of women who both complain about (unattractive) men who approach them and lobbying Governments to protect women's safety from "creeps". Men have been told to not approach women in public by said women and the men who respect their wishes listened and agreed. Now men don't approach women. In the UK, unwanted communication and attention can constitute an offence of harassment and stalking (it doesn't take much). And those videos, lobbying and laws are informed by social taboos.
