  1. The United States was fighting the Axis powers in Europe and in the Pacific. The Soviet Union was only focused on the European fight until the United States had Japan on the ropes. I don't mean to downplay the Soviet Union sacrifice in WWII; they had greater total casualties than the other allied nations.
