Jeremy Liu Actually yes, the idea of the Olympics was so that city states can send their best athletes to compete rather then go to war, settle differences without killing each other. Of course, we see it didn't work out that way, but the original intention has always been political, even your local football games were political for different unions to settle scores with each other.
