@beach-episode I do that to my wife so she will be quiet. This topic seems to have brought back a lot of repressed memories of people's terrible childhood so their solution seems to sugar coat and pussify the next generation.

Unfortunately you say children are smart yet they grow up to be idiots that you see on TV whining and crying about capitalism Etc and how the system isn't fair because their parents never explained to them that life isnt fair, that things can hurt, or if you do things wrong you're going to be punished for it and usually in negative ways. And yes though I do fully agree with you that my experience probably is not the norm but I don't come from a dysfunctional family even though I don't know my real father

If your parents spanked you that's one thing. Being beaten is another. Seems most of you had parents that beat you but also emotionally abused you by not giving you enough positive reinforcement etc. If the negative is greater than positive yes you'll be messed up.
