In the States, if someone (from the "elite- or otherwise) has the foresight and wherewithal to send their kids for a study abroad experience, that would be seen as a positive, not a negative thing. An American living abroad is an "expat" - again, no bad connotations there. Why should I applaud, say, Musk's decision to live away from his home country and then at the same time diss, say, Durov for leaving the motherland behind? I'd say these two are pretty much on the same page when it comes to "self-enrichment" and -ill-gotten wealth".
