Your prognostication is correct in one, and only one, respect - there likely will be another counteroffensive, this time designed and carried out by Ukrainians proper, not their NATO handlers and advisors. And it is likely to be more successful than the previous one (simply because the previous one was a total disaster), but at a great cost and unlikely to result in significant gains - but then that newly (re)gained ground will be the starting point for negotiations.
