There should be no veterans on the street as there's plenty of financial support available for 'homeless' veterans from Help for Heroes, The Royal British Legion, SSAFA etc. Have you ever been inside a Royal British Legion regional office? It's like walking into a palace - they've got stacks of cash!!!

Quote - I would like to go to Canada and have a better life. What's wrong with the UK then? Don't you like it?

The Uk should be accepting asylum seekers who want to claim asylum in UK as part of their commitments under the 1951 UN Refugee Convention. I suggest a safe passage should be created and allow asylum seekers to travel across the Channel on a ferry.
1
@jamesdavies4769 you're very funny - what makes you think I can process their asylum applications and grant asylum??
1
@jamesdavies4769 Btw, even if I did host a refugee family at my home, the UK Government would financially reward me just like they do with unwanted UK children!!
1
@FaceFcuk wtf you on about? There's provision in this country to help homeless people and help with accommodation!! As far as I'm aware, if people are homeless it's cos they choose to be homeless! The UK should be accepting these cross channel goers or do the honourable thing and withdraw from the Convention. Unfortunately the UK Government do not honour their commitments and do not wish to withdraw from the Convention because they haven't the balls to do it!

@sheep83 Look sheep - taxes won't come down if the government spent £0 on asylum seekers, migrants or whoever! You like me and most other people will always be taxed! Once the government got their money that is legally owed to them by you, me and most other people, they can spend it on what THEY want. The Government rewards anybody for housing asylum seekers. Even my local council is giving shelter to asylum seekers! I pay taxes like most people and yet I really don't have any beef about this issue so I can't see what your problem is! It's clear you are unhappy in your life, like countless other Brits! That's not MY fault nor is it these people crossing the channel who have every legal right to come across!

@sheep83 Btw the UK Government is not honouring its commitment under the 1951 Convention because there's 1000s of people in France who want to claim asylum in UK and the British are not accepting them!
1
@sheep83 France cannot accept an asylum seeker in their country if that asylum seeker wants to go to another country like UK to seek asylum. France does accept refugees and process asylum applications for people who want to to seek asylum in France. Whilst they do this asylum seekers in France are provided with similar levels of financial help, food and shelter like they would do in UK. Imo, the people in tents are those who want to claim asylum in UK and failed asylum applicants so France has no obligation to these people at all but at least providing them with tents and food is humane. You seem to think the people in tents in France are people who are claiming asylum in France but think they can get a better deal in the UK - that's completely absurd. Imo these people WANT to claim asylum in UK, not France and the British authorities have a duty under the Convention to accept them!!! I see it as a British problem in France.

@sheep83 you're throwing your toys out now. I'd love to flee Britain and live eslewhere but I couldn't demonstrate I was being persecuted especially from people living in the UK. People who are claiming asylum from Iraq, Syria and countries where there has been upheaval and conflict don't have to meet any stringent border controls and would have a successful asylum claim!! Think of the thousands of Afghan refugee. There's nothing you or anyone can do on You Tube, GB News, by reading the Daily Mail or Express to change the situation.
1
@sheep83 Quote - Neither can they. Have you lived in Iraq to know? Has Iraq invaded the UK and influenced the Government and population in such a way that I feel persecuted because of who I am, forcing me to flee to Canada? Absolutely not!! It's always one sided to you!! Where there's an argument or debate there are more sides to it than yours!! I only talk of asylum seekers and it's not for you or I to judge their applications.
1
@sheep83 Quote 1) Why haven't they been returned to their country of origin? I don't know, why don't you ask them. That's the thing with GB News, they never interview an asylum seeker or failed asylum seeker in France and ask them about their situation and why they want to come to UK. Maybe you should start watching French TV news channels to get a better picture rather accept what the far right are telling you. Perhaps go over to France and interview them yourself? 2)Why on earth would we consider them? They obviously failed for a reason. They know our govt won't deport them, so they resolve to come here. I'm not interested in failed asylum seekers. France can clearly deport them, just like the UK can. If an asylum seeker wants to claim asylum in UK the UK authorities should play a part in providing safe passage for them. They can then process their applications and if unsuccessful after appeals process has been exhausted the UK authorities can deport them. It's very simple isn't it. Your beef is more to do with the UK authority's unwillingness to deport failed asylum seekers. Maybe you should have asked your MP why Britain isn't deporting them?
1
@sheep83 still waiting if somebody has found those weapons of mass destruction!! As far as I'm concerned if UK had not invaded Iraq none of them would be wanting to come here!!
1
ere what's with the globe? the Earth's flat mate!!! Haha!!
1
@Globetrotter-1 how do you know there is an edge? I never said there was!
1
you clearly have no respect for other country's sovereignty and you are another person who lives in the past and who wants to relive the war years - people have moved on since then!!
1
@steve2467-d8c sorry i deleted my comments because i had a change of mind so I'll type this succinctly. Look - it's clear from your comment you are unhappy in your life. Life in UK for millions of people is the same; you're not the only one. Even i'm unhappy to a degree. But one thing I've learned in life is there is no going back. One can only move forward. I think people need to learn to accept change and learn to accept the fact things can never be the same.
1
that's so funny, most people are like that, they only want to talk to you when they want something and it's usually money!!!
1
Wtf?? These people want to come and claim asylum in the UK, not in France. So it's a British problem in France.
1
how do you know the UK Government doesn't claim monies from the United Nations (UNHCR) to help pay for the costs of taking in refugees?
1
France lets these people sleep in tents because they want to claim asylum in the UK so when they get to the UK they live in 4/5* hotels at £250 full-board including mobile phones and cash each week. The asylum seekers who claim asylum in France probably get the same. I don't know what your beef is?
