The Labour party had only developed the provision for welfare. The Liberals passed the 1911 National Insurance Act and there was the Unemployment Assistance Board. The National Assistance Act 1948 only formally abolished the Poor Law System that had existed since Queen Elizabeth I. I wouldn't say the Labour Party 'created' the welfare state. It's taken approximately 60 years for the UK Government to develop from the National Assistance Act to become what it is now, Universal Credit, which could have been introduced years ago!!

@waynegazard5038 I'm not aligned to any political party but I remember BT announcing its massive profits just after it was privatised. Where was all that money going that BT was making BEFORE it was privatised during both Labour and Tory Governments. Btw, both Labour and Tory MP's sit on commitees and are able to vote on Parliamentary affairs - they're just as bad as each other because they all work for the same employer!!

@sirmeowthelibrarycat Throughout the 20th Century the Labour Party have always had a presence in Parliament Political parties all work for the same business!! Like I've stated, imo the Labour Party never created the Welfare state. They merely developed provision for poor and vulnerable people that had previously existed for hundreds of years.
