the only solution is to withdraw from the 1951 Refugee Convention.

@lellyparker Why would we want to reject people fleeing from war/persecution etc? Because many of these brexiteers are heartless and want our borders closed. And what would we do with them if we did "reject" them? That's for the Brexiteers to scratch their heads and answer. As far as I am concerned there is very absolutely NOTHING the UK can do about this problem in the short term. Perhaps if Britain stopped interefering in other countries affairs that could help. Maybe GREAT Britain could work with other countries where these peoplpe are travelling from and make living conditions better for them.

@jimbop4499 calm down Jimbop, the action you type of would be against international law if those people are seeking asylum in UK. The UK is obliged to accept anyone claiming asylum under the 1951 Refugee Convention. Imho the phrase 'people smuggler' is totally unnecessary. The people coming into UK are either asylum seekers/refugees or not, how they get here is irrelevant. It's up the authorities, not you or Nigel Farage, to decide whether the people are or are not asylum seekers.

@lellyparker it means the UK would have greater powers to reject them, not even deal with asylum applications.

The Dublin accord only served to prevent duplication of asylum applications within the EU. You need to determine whether the numbers of asylum seekers are increasing throughout Europe and not just in UK to draw any firm conclusions that Brexit is the cause of the increase. Even out of EU, the UK can still work with the EU to determine whether the asylum applicant has already made a claim in the EU - I'm sure that would be one question that is asked of an asylum applicant.

@baronvonlimbourgh1716 yup they can ask for asylum in the uk but they cannot if their application for asylum in another country has been granted! That's why the EU use the Dublin Convention to prevent multiple applications within EU countries. The UK is not part of EU and so is not bound by the Dublin Convention! However the UK still have every right under the UN 1951 Convention to check whether an asylum seeker has been granted asylum in other countries!
