@saba1030 Britain is paying £500m for an accommodation centre in France so that asylum seekers wanting to come to UK don't have to live in tents. Whatever the case, an asylum seeker who wants to claim asylum in the UK has the right to make a claim in UK territory. France is not UK territory.

That's a similar remark from the right wingers voting Reform and asking people to vote Reform. What are Labour going to do that Reform can't do? They're all as bad as each other that's why I never vote!!

Phil, one cannot process asylum claims in France because the asylum seeker has a right to claim asylum in the UK and that means on UK soil!!!

@ADifferentBias Why hasn't the Uk authorities built a processing centre in France then? It would make sense to process claims in France to prevent unnecessary boat crossings. So where's the UK asylum processing centre in France? There isn't one. There's never been one. Why isn't there one? Because the UK authorities cannot process UK asylum claims in France!! Imo all UK asylum applications have to be processed in the UK.

@saba1030 The only reason why the French is offering help is because there are many people on their territory who want to come to UK and claim asylum. Joint customs co-operation is completely different to processing asylum applications. Quote - the same "agreement" should be possible for asylum seekers (for the UK) on French territory at Calais. It isn't possible because France wouldn't want rejected asylum seekers left in France only for them to deal with when the UK should be deporting them or returning them. Think about it, if UK asylum applications were processed in France, the French Government would have no control over the British authorities for 'rejecting far too many' asylum applications. Processing asylum applications is far more complicated than you think.
