Sorry but forced labour ended years ago!!! The DWP cannot force someone to apply and take up a particular job!!!

The people under the new 'immigration' rules might find it harder to apply for settled status unlike EU migrants before. So perhaps the Brexiteers aren't interested in immigration at all, they're more interested in permanent settlement of immigrants!!!

@pf844 jobseekers are only required to apply for any type of work after 4wks of their claim. Nowhere does it state a jobseeker must take up a place of employment in any type of work at any time during their claim!!
1
@pf844 one also has to take into account the fact that employers are highly unlikely to take on an experienced car mechanic to carry out a pot washers job especially when that person WILL be looking for work in the car industry!!

@magyarbrit5631 cyril smith was lib dem and he fiddled with kids! Nazir Ahmed a labour peer was recently sentenced to prison for sex offences against kids! Child abuse is indiscriminate regarding political affiliation

@pf844 in order to refuse a suitable job you've got to have been offered a job in the first place!! If you turn up at an interview totally disinterested I don't think any employer will offer you the job!! Employers are looking for work minded people, if your mind is not on any particular work you'd be deemed unsuitable! Additionally, how would the DWP know you've been offered a job when you don't record it? You've had fear instilled in you by the Tory Government and yet there's always been people who have been out of work, claiming jobseekers for years!! Anyway what's wrong with doing lower paid work? Do you have a problem with it?

@STONEWALL148 quote - You used to be able to look for work within your area and with your own skillset, there's nothing stopping anybody from doing this even now!
1
@pf844 you're very funny - you should do stand up comedy!! I have been long term unemployed - 13 years and of course the unsubstantiated fear exists of getting pushed into a job you don't want to do. However, that fear was self generated. The JCP never forced me into a job I didn't want to do during that 13yr period. Although I have been working for the past 12 years, I know lots of people who currently don't get hassle from JCP! It's the underlying fear of losing benefits that perpetuate the fear and negativity about being forced into work! Sanctions are only in place to ensure the welfare and safety of JCP staff and to earn some kind of respect from jobseekers! Remember 'good reason' to sanction someone's money is not defined in benefit legislation and any judgement is totally subjective. There's nothing laid down in law regarding what a good reason is!! They just want people playing their game but it doesn't mean you HAVE TO TAKE A JOB! People who attend JCP are JOBSEEKERS not people who HAVE TO WORK!

@STONEWALL148 You're fearmongering, the Tories are NOT forcing people into low paid work. The only people who want to work in low paid jobs are those who want to work in low paid jobs. The Tories can only encourage people to take up certain kinds of employment. Every jobseeker is an individual and has individual needs which is why every claimant commitment is individualised to the customer's needs. So what if someone is expected to travel up to 90 mins to get a job, you're overlooking the fact a person has to pay for it. How can one be expected to get a low paid job and out of their wage pay for travel costs around £20 a day? To me that sounds totally unsuitable especially when there are similar vacancies much closer!!! No employer would ever entertain that application form!! The trouble with people like you is you're unrealistic and you need to be more positive!!
1
@pf844 And yet the DWP would have given him money for the travel costs to get to an interview. You really are scraping the barrel!!!! The JCP staff could have taken the pi** out of that bloke, he might not be a bloke who stands up for himself. It happens all the time even in the workplace where vulnerable employees are taken advantage of by their fellow colleagues and employer.

@pf844 You really don't read what I type. If you cared to absorb the info in my comment you'll notice I stated I used to claim JSA. You're fearmongering like what many other people on this thread are doing!!

@5688gamble Quote - All I want is to be able to stay warm and eat, maybe have a few diversions like my music and games, not asking for luxury................ So how will Government get any tax from you? I appreciate what you want is the same as millions of others but until people protest about these kinds of things and not about Ukraine, COVID, Freedom Marches, nothing is going to change!! People's priorities are all wrong in the UK.

@pf844 Taken from Uk Government's own website regarding jobsearch rights. Your rights and safety when looking for a job. "If you’re getting Jobseeker’s Allowance, you’ll be sent emails and text messages about job vacancies. It won’t cost you anything to get the texts, and you don’t have to reply. You’ll need to set up an email address to get jobs by email and apply for jobs online. You can find a free email service on the internet. Your Jobcentre Plus adviser can help you. You can use a computer to access the internet for free at your local Jobcentre Plus office or in your local library. Find your local UK online centre for help getting online and using the internet. You could be eligible for help towards the cost of travelling to a job interview. Speak to your Jobcentre Plus adviser." Please note the last sentence!!!!

@pf844 Ahhh I've established the problem here, You initially stated "a 56 year gentleman was forced to walk 24 miles to attend JSA work interviews!" Because you used the word 'work' I assumed you were referring to work interviews. Now I realise you were referring to a Jobseeker signing-on at a Jobcentre Plus office. Glad I worked that one out before you!!! From what I gather that was in approx 2015/6. The man's situation raises lots of questions because after reading the story he didn't need to place himself in a situation where he lived 24 miles from the Jobcentre. He only had to attend the initial meeting in the Jobcentre and was able to sign on at a local library!!!
1
@molybdomancer195 remember it's called job seeking meaning one only has to look and apply for jobs - that's jobsearch! Getting an interview is another matter and being offered a job is another matter still! Btw - if a jobseeker turns down a job that is offered to them they will only face a sanction if they fail to have 'good reason' for doing so. 'Good reason' in DWP legislation is undefined!!
1
@pf844 oh apologies - you must forgive. It's difficult responding to somebody who's not very clear! What you mean by a JSA work interview? The guy had to attend an initial appointment at a JCP office in order to make his claim and EVERYBODY has to do this!! He was able to subsequently sign at his local library!!!

@molybdomancer195 Quote - A big issue facing the U.K. economy is the infilled jobs that young EU workers used to do What's the point of an employer taking on a skilled worker to do unskilled work knowing s/he'll leave the job once s/he's found better employment. This leaves the employer in the same position as before. What's the point in an employer taking on an unemployed person to carry out unskilled work knowing he's not going to be enthusiastic, pull his/her weight and even incur cost to the company through poor workmanship and productivity and be unreliable? I wouldn't employ an unemployed person!! Standards will drop!! It's a lot easier to lobby Government saying we can't get the staff, can we get some Asians into the country to fill the gaps. What about people from Africa? This seems a better option but it doesn't mean these people will spend their income in the UK economy. One thing you're failing to realise is the UK economy is shrinking because there's less people on the Island!! Soon they'll have no money to buy things!!! A lot of employers will have to close down!!!
1
@STONEWALL148 sure they've only changed them in that jobseekers are required to search for any type of work that is suitable and they are able to do after a few weeks from start of claim!! I think you are being very negative if you think ANY UK government will get people who have back problems for example to undertake manual lifting jobs!! Hahaha!
