What about the Chagossians living in Mauritius? Have you asked how they feel? That's where the majority live. I guess they are very pleased with the decision 👍

Why is it nobody is looking at the law and the history of the Chagos Islands, the UN maritime Court's decision and the UNGA vote? It's clear the British has no legal right the Islands otherwise it would have International support. I guess also if the Brits hadn't have kicked out the natives during the 1960's other countries would have looked at Britain more favourably - reap what you sow I guess.

@margaretwestwood7577 A vote on what? The majority of Chagossians that live in Mauritius had a say through the Mauritius Government and the small number of Chagossians who live in the UK had a say through the British Govt. In the deal there are plans for resettlement so any Chagossian living in the UK would be free to return. There are also plans to build new infrustructure like roads and hopsitals all paid for by the UK taxpayer. It's only right the UK should pay rent to Mauritius for the sole use of land which isn't theirs. I'm sure if you were a landlord you wouldn't allow a person to live in your property free of charge.

@BritishLandeur The Chagos Islands have been administered from Mauritius since the early 18th century, 100 years before the British arrived. The Islands continued to be administered by Mauritius which later became independent from the British in the 1960's. So the British inadvertently lost any apparent claim to the Chagos Islands when they handed independence to Mauritius. The Islands clearly belong to Mauritius than to a country 6,400km away and an International Maritime Court found this to be the case along with a vote at the UNGA. By the way, the majority of Chagossians who were forced off their land, live on the Island of Mauritius whom I suspect are very pleased with this decision, as this might provide some kind of compensation to them after their forced eviction. Unfortunately the biased British press won't interview Chagossians living in Mauritius to see how happy they are with this decision 👍
