You get about £185 every week. That's pretty good going. In April next year it will rise to £203 every week. Plus you could get help paying your Council Tax and any rent. People receiving state pension have lots of money to live on!! Oh and if you're worried about your heating costs remember the £400 grant you're receiving and you can claim money from the Warm Home Discount Scheme of about £160. Oh and you can always put on an extrra jumper or two or ride around on a bus all day to keep warm!!! Why not visit your local library?

@Pythonaria I don't fully know your circumstances but you exemplify what's wrong with people in this country, you moan for not having things like help to pay council tax and rent but it seems like you get enough money to live on. If you sold your car and took advantage of your entitlement to free bus travel you'd have even more money in your pocket. If you don't get the Warm Home Discount Scheme it simply means you get enough money!!! So stop whinging and enjoy your retirement. Btw, I'm not envious at all because I'd rather be rich in heart than rich in pocket 👍👍👍

The Government has lots of money. Councils have lots of money. Lots of people in the UK have lots of money and some have too much money!!!!

@taniayager3361 I really can't see why you think elderly people don't get it good in the UK. At every opening of Parliament probably, one of the Monarch's wishes for his parliament is to ensure elderly people are looked after in the forthcoming year, hence the increase in state pension! To top that, the largest pay out for councils across the UK is to pay for adult social care. Yep, that includes elderly people to be cared for by the state because friends and family careless about these people. people receiving adult social care do not have to worry about heating, shelter, food! Imo if elderly people are struggling it's because they're either wasting their money or haven't been able to make the best of their life to have family look after them! I don't make the rules in this society I just live in it and have to put with the BS!

@christopherckarkson5605 nice to see you recognise what your council tax pays for but to me it is irrespective whether one pays into the system or not as in my mind and in view of the current way of life in UK, it is the duty of the state to ensure that the most vulnerable are looked after and this includes the elderly. If people were educated better then it is likely lots of people will avoid being looked after by the state and thus reduce the adult social care bill as they would have family to look after them! In so doing, people like yourself would have less council tax to pay! The moral of the story it seems is that you and I both pay for a crap society!!

@Pythonaria I'd be very happy on what will be in April 2023 £203 every week, council tax paid, rent paid, money from the Warm Home Discount Scheme etc etc. Free presciptions, free dental and hospital treatment, free bus pass. C'mon, what more do people want especially at the age of 66???

@4thebanjoguy Sorry but one can still receive Council Tax Support if receiving State Pension. Council Tax Support is means tested, it's quite right that the more one receives the less help from the council people get. If pensioners don't qualify for Pension Credit in many cases they clearly get too much money!!!

@lizbull4263 to me it seems you're obv doing something wrong as luxuries are only for the wealthy not for the poor!

@veronicaevans8993 Well all I can say is, if you own your own home sell up and move to rented accommodation. It's clear you can't afford to live where you do. If you do live in your own home and sell it at least you'll have some cash in the bank to spend on the things that are important. However if you do own your own home but choose not to sell it, you've clearly got your priorities wrong. Another example where people live beyond their means and where people can easily live better lives but would rather the state pay for it!!! You're no different to these asylum seekers!!!!
