In the UK, the Lords are unelected and the head of state of the UK is also unelected. In the EU all politicians are elected. Neil Kinnock explains this in this video on Brexit: "Democratic Deficit" in the EU is no longer any of your business!

@Jonny_The_Organism did you get to vote on any Lord or Monarch?? No you didn't and never will!! Claude Dunker and Ursula Van De Leyen were elected by elected members of the eu council/parliament

@hetrodoxly1203 That cannot happen because of the GFA. NI remains in the single market to keep the GFA in place. Don't you recognise that there are settled people in NI who consider themselves Irish and not British? You're in your own little world aren't you?

@mikeg2939 neil kinnock succinctly explains the elected governance in the EU and that is absent from the UK Parliament!!

Hahaha!! Reform has as much chance of reforming toilet seats than it does in reforming the British political system!!!

@DS9TREK sorry they are linked. The GFA is an International agreement promoting no border on the island of Ireland. As the UK (mainly English) voted to leave the EU single market and customs union, a customs border could not be placed between NI and Ireland. Understand? Therefore to resolve this problem and to adhere to customs border controls the EU agreed along with the UK to keep NI within the single market for goods. It really is that simple and there is no border problem. GB is now a Third Country and therefore checks on goods have to be carried out between the two markets. I really can't see what your problem is. The Windsor framework is done and dusted and the MP's will pass it on Weds giving the DUP more incentives to get back into Stormont and do what they've been paid to do for the past year!!! Oh it's not my fault an Irish nationalist party has the most votes, leaving poor old DUP second place!! Ahhh diddums!!!!

@paigeleaf4581 he was only explaing the governance of the EU to some uneducated person in the audience who, for some weird reason, dislikes the EU!!

@raycope2086 Nobody will make manifestos legal documents because not every party can keep to them!! Even Reform wouldn't keep to their manifesto pledges!!!! They're all as bad as each other!!!

@paigeleaf4581 okay let's start from the beginning The UK and even Ireland joined to EU way back in early 1970s and since then the EU has evolved. In 1999 the Good Friday Agreement was signed and I'm aware this meant everybody agreed, both Irish and British that no border was to be placed between ireland and Northern Ireland. Effectively this meant both countries were ultimately tied to each other if one or both decided to leave the EU. Then the UK decided to leave the EU and Ireland remains within the EU. The UK is now a 3rd country and has to comply with international trade laws. Therefore checks on goods have to be carried out. So because there exists a strong will to keep the GFA alive no border is placed on the island of Ireland and so NI remains under the jurisdiction of the EU with regard to goods.. People like you think the EU should get out of NI as that will satisfy your own ego. However, the only way that can happen is if a land border was placed between NI and Ireland or if ireland decided to leave the EU or if Irish nationalists decided to leave NI. Unfortunately for people like you there is a strong will to keep peace in NI and for nationalists to remain in NI. So you have to remember a lot of settled people in NI identify themselves as Irish and not British! So it's only the GFA and the drive to keep peace in the region and the fact Ireland is a member of the EU that keeps British territory ie NI within the EU! Tell me, do you actually live in NI or are you one of these people who are vocal about decisions that do not concern them? If the latter, you want to stick your nose out of other people's busness!!
1
yes NI is under british governance but Brits have to recognise a number of NI inhabitants identify themselves as Irish and not British - so you have to govern with that in mind!! if not, you're enforcing British will onto people who do not want it!! Remember the will of the people so don't forget the will of the Irish living in NI!! @111111877

@davidsaunders1125 and you fail to ignore the fact the british monarch can reject any bill that is put forward by MP's! Whatever way u look at it the EU is more democratic than the UK!!
1
@davidsaunders1125 the Monarch represents the Crown and so has the final say in the land regarding any business of UKplc and the Monarch is unelected! All members of the EU Commission have to be elected. In fact ALL members of eu parliament, commission and council have to be elected! by the way - nobody truly knows what Bills the Monarch in the UK accepts or rejects because that information is withheld from puiblic scrutiny. You must be mad to defend the UK as being truly democratic when in fact you're living in a dictatorship in the form of crown rule!
