@Gromic2k 20% No way man, more like 250%. Living in a small apartment with a heat pump and double glass, I have to pay around 750 euro a month. You clearly have absolutely no clue how insane the costs are. And that will translate in massive price increases everywhere. How many people do have a spare 500 euro after taxes, every month? There will be people that have to spend several thousand extra!

@briankristiansen821 All energy prices are a scam at this moment and all suppliers do it as there is one EU energy market and price. As for heat pumps, they have notoriously poor efficiency when it gets cold. Then they switch to using electric heating to keep up with the heating demand. Mine regularly uses 2000W (I check my smart meter for this). Where I live, electricity suppliers have prices that almost touch and in some case exceed 1 Euro per Kw/h. Mine currently is € 0,87581 per Kw/h and it will soon be raised to what new customers have to pay. Which is € 0,97367. Having no gas connection and thus 100% relying on this makes for an insanely expensive energy bill. And why do we have no gas anymore? We are pretty much forced by our governments. And then they decide that out of all wars we had these last 30 years, this one deserves cutting off the gas supply. Whole energy intensive industries, essential for normal functioning of society are grinding to a halt as a result. The full impact of this stupidity has yet to be fully felt.

Germany is basically subsidizing energy using 12% of its total GDP (yes, that is gross, not net, totaling 465 billion Euro). That is NOT free money people, someone will be paying for that (and it is not the truly wealthy for sure)!

Ukranian troops are spread because else Russians can just walk in and encircle them. There is no theory of victory by their troops, only to try and get the West directly involved and start World War III. Stop helping them achieving that with misdirection. It is very clear that NATO and in particular the USA and UK want the war to keep going on. Peace is not allowed as that would take away the profits and toolset to attack Russia and Putin in Particular. The USA will keep the fighting going until the last Ukranian men are dead and then ship in even more.

@ananamu2248 What parallel universe are you from? Ukraine is trough and through corrupt and was this long before the war, there is zero cohesion, which is why there is conflict to begin with. On both sides masses fled the country at first opportunity. The ones fighting now are either the Russian speaking people fighting for self-control and those forced by the Kiev regime. Very few fight because they want to!

@briankristiansen821 That is both a very low price and not much use. Probably also not have typical appliances people have, like a TV and/or a PC. Another energy drain is washing & drying. I suspect the heating and warm water is both heavily subsidized where you live. Taking a warm shower for most people these days is expensive and a daily recurring thing.

@fkiesel9442 This is how expensive it is in the Netherlands. Not that far away from Germany. I am actually taking electricity from the biggest supplier. It is slightly more expensive then most, but I wish I could pay half of what I pay now. Every three months a new price is set based on then actual European market prices. None of the suppliers even offers yearly contracts anymore due to the price volatility. In the near future, prices are only looking to rise even more. Actions the government is taking will actually increase price for a large part of the population as they are off the gas and will not be paying a capped tariff for much of their energy use. And now the EU is setting it sights on taking the windfall profits for a problem they have created themselves by blocking Russian gas. This energy crisis has been willfully manufactured by them it seems, just to steal the money of the citizens and go even more insane with it than they already have so far.

@purplecat4977 I am pretty sure I am not, given I actually hear the heat pump and then see its usage. I also know where the water goes (floor-heating). Last year I had a average monthly heating bill of a little under 80 Euros. Most of the energy use back then was in the winter months as well. This year I use even slightly less than last year, the costs scale roughly linear up with the price of the energy. The suppliers are doing a dirty trick too with their changing price every 3 months. Next increase will be in the center of the winter and that price is then used for the next three months! Not even changing suppliers will solve that as they will all do it. Mostly forced by the government that let new rules go into effect on January 1 2023. Governments break everything! As if 17 percent inflation alone does not hurt enough, they actively try to make things even worse for many.

@johndavidmanuel2189 Reality check: do not confuse manufactured consent with actual consent. As for the oil/gas, Russia sells and is actually making MORE money now. It is just traded via Asia now and both the Russians and the middle-men there are making a killing of Europeans paying a lot more. What you observe is political posturing, it is all they can do really, the EU has no teeth. But what they lack in power, they make up for with propaganda and a media that just tows the government line (manufactured consent). Any deviation gaining traction is labeled conspiracy / right wing extremist and in some cases will be financially ruined by the out of control state and the big corporations. Yes, they block bank account access and keep the funds, that sort of thing (like in the 30s, things get confiscated). We are in the middle of a fascist power grab and many do not even see it, just like back then. So busy virtue signaling for a cause they know nothing about and when they do, it would turn their stomach. Likely you are not old enough to have good reference points. We are frogs that are slowly getting boiled and most have never known any different, so they do not react. In fact they defend the "reality" they know (like you do)!

And when that happened, they started a war against the Russians speaking/Russian oriented people when. Political parties were outlawed, its members jailed. Same for the press not in favor of the new regime. People were even killed in an organized massacre. Kiev is full out fascist and anyone significant against them is put on a death list. That is not to Putin's credit, but to the discredit and shortsightedness of European politicians in general. They just wanted cheap and easy, it was their only metric. And then they themselves decided they suddenly did not want to buy anymore at all. But as they could not, the bought it via middel man. The real goal was just to look tough on Russia, pure political posturing. As for the USA as an alternative source. That is hardly is sufficient, Europe does not have the installation capacity needed to deliquefy sufficient LNG. Again, total lack of foresight.

And due to the reliance on Russian NatGas, Germany has limited LNG infrastructure, which forced it to charter five floating storage and regasification units on the country's north coast. The cost of chartering FSRUs is a whopping 9.7 billion euros. The first LNG vessel will arrive at the floating terminal this weekend. The five FSRUs will only be able to cover about a third of Germany's current NatGas demand -- still unable to offset the supply deficit since Russian flows have been cut.

@markdesign6839 It is, around 25 euro a day atm. Spread over a whole year it is less, obviously. But it is many times higher than last year, just as the Kw/h price is. Using Eneco, see their prices, they are even higher now than what I currently pay. And I expect another hike in January. The capped price will do nothing but jack up my price even more. As the VAT will go to 21% again and I use well above the limit set based on gas + electricity use, as I only have electricity and must use it for everything. Not only that, but the price level in general will be higher in January and that price will be set fixed for 3 months, well into the months that see much less energy demand. Out of interest, what is your current Kw/h price, when was it set and who supplies your electricity? Using about 32 Kw/h a day with current weather.

@markdesign6839 I checked Engie out and they are between 8 to 10 eurocent cheaper per Kw/h. But that was the pricing a few days ago. I hope you can keep your current pricing long enough to carry you over the winter months. Also do not conflate the monthly rate with what you pay per individual month. Energy use and thus costs in winter months is always much higher. Overall, you might actually use more energy than I do and pay more once your fixed contract expires. Mine did last October and they stopped offering those by then.

@maka6134 Windy area, ground floor. And as I recently discovered the double glass does next to nothing because the window opening is leaking air. So as soon as it gets real cold, so does one of my rooms. But as all are connected, I cannot just say, F that one room. With current prices one does not need to use a whole lot of energy to get to sky high prices. And please do not mistake this months cost with the monthly cost (as that will be an average over the year). With the recent cold I paid as much in 3 days as my average monthly cost last year!

The Netherlands has far below market price long term gas delivery contracts with Germany. Right now it is the only reason gas is still pumped up! There is absolutely zero chance they did it for some competitive reason. The USA is by far the most likely candidate to have done it. They give F.all about the EU and their long standing policy is to keep Germany down. And this would do the job.
