  1. The problem with academia is that they are often living in an isolation bubble. At best they compete with other academia for attention, but none of that matters when the much bigger out-world with others and ex-academia delivers bigger things faster. Academia should focus on pure research, try new things that at first sight will seem to lead nowhere, but can have real potential. Professors that stick to the comfortable are at risk to quickly loose the plot.
