The public will pay for the investments (via their governments), and the profits will go to the big players as it always does. I say this because the energy/cooling required for the datacenters come from markets that are largely under government control and governments always fall for the con that investing to support the big players will lead to job growth. There is no free market at play in these matters...at all.

Programming and software engineering have not been distinct for at least 40 years now. One person says programming, another says software engineering, but in practice they both do the same. As for coding, that is not that much different. At 50 I never seen anyone just program, eg. translating from a pre-determined flow diagram, into a programming language (basically translating). It just does not happen, people tried very early on, but that never worked, even at small scales.

@mattc3510 Only someone what knows little about software systems can make such a comment. It is more than just having an idea and language is VERY POOR at conveying ideas. Shocking I known, but it is true. Language is riddled with ambiguities and lack of precision.

I had to laugh at the "arrogant programmers" comment. There is also a problem of arrogant people working for customers that think they know how their business works (hint: they often don't) and have no idea about what can be done cost-effective with IT and what cannot. AI has one advantage however and that is quick iterations based on directions. But without conscious testing for proper functioning, that power is next to worthless. Programmers will become those directors and testers, not the end-users!

"free humans to do creative stuff" Such as following long outdated instructions by the letter, not understanding them, nor able to spot when things go off the rails.

That constant cursor movement/wobbling would drive me crazy, it already does when I watch the video. Still, better than no control at all, obviously.

The first use of AGI will be to replace the voters!

Don't fall into the trap to see AI people as knowing all about software development in the field (just as a virologist knows next to nothing about epidemiology). They do not, they hardly understand AI itself. And Jensen is wrong, not everyone can program because they have a mouth. There is a BIG distinction between having an idea and articulating it well enough to make something practical with all the required details and system interactions involved. He is just selling his products to people that have control over the money in companies and also lack understanding of what is necessary.
