The UN was supposed to help nations resolve conflicts that might lead to war. Not resolve conflicts with constant convoluted wealth transfer schemes. IOW, if you're a parasite you think that the only way to "peace" is to beg (dishonestly) for some great power to help you. If you're not a parasite you might ask for help in resolving temporal problems. Most schools throughout the world teach students parasitism and obedience to the state, states full of parasitic politicians.

They must establish trade regimes that do not corrode the rule of law in the nations that trade with each other. It's up to free people to enter in to "industrial" trade partnerships. Every other way leads to failure and war. This mindset of "victims of imperialism" is actually itself imperialistic, justified only by delusional victim narratives that you all tell each other. You support "defensive imperialism" based on fact-free stories gleaned from history. Defending IP rights is not "imperialism." It's fundamental to cooperative free trade.

That's just silly. The US needs to stop rewarding "Communist" doctrines. It's then up to them if they want to respond to the new "international" incentives regime. The same can be said of Iran, Cuba, etc. etc. etc.

US consumers do not pay the tariffs unless they choose to. When they look at (and start to choose) other options the supply chain attempts to recover market share and absorbs some if not all of the costs. Your analytical model supposes that all nations have fixed prices and no alternative choices to the products offered.

@HDsharp LOL. What is that supposed to mean? China's advantage is that they don't have to please their own body politic. Their disadvantage is that their body politic is not very resilient and doesn't know how to respond to this kind of adversity when the Communist Party runs out of Commanding Heights tricks. The USA doesn't need China for anything at all. We choose to trade with them because we want a synergistic rules-based world order. But when those rules only apply to the USA that is not a rules-based world order.

Freddy H You read a few articles and you're confused. Trump is not confused. The issue is not trade deficits per se. Trade deficits merely quantify the issue in ways that the public can easily process and measure immediately. It's China's need to put everyone else out of manufacturing that has intelligent non-Communists worried.

Macron is an idiot with his false binaries. As if bilateral relationships are corrosive to democracy? Quite the opposite. The real binary choice pertains to whether national leaders seek synergistic trade relationships, deal by deal, or if they turn over "governance" of trade to international institutions that only understand zero-sum trade paradigms, where no citizen of any sovereign nation has a clear shot at seeking justice in trade disputes. It becomes nothing but a network of corporations and politicians that they buy off, unchecked by any enforceable transparency laws. Also, no nation needs "multilateralism" unless they are incorrigibly parasitic and expect to improve their status only through negotiation rather than honest competition through trade, improving schools, etc. France needs a new leader. Macron is embarrassing.
