if they wanted to clone the server so that they could still continue using it that is not what you would hand over to investigators. They're such devious liars. The way you recover from "disasters" is you restore from backup and hand over the suspect hardware without making any changes to it. You then carry on "production" on the "restored" server(s). Handing over a "clone" means that they literally reconstructed only what they wanted anyone to see because a clone doesn't reproduce overwritten data. What they did was hide all of the evidence and then hand over something that they called a clone so that the FBI could theoretically...reproduce a production server that was configured after the "crime" occurred. Not one trained IT person would EVER suggest doing that. I goes against all training. You simply would never do it not just because it's against "norms" but it's explicitly against security protocols propagated by the DoD for "regulated" IT systems. They violated the law again. So many violations. And the FBI puts up with this not because their techs are ignorant either but because they're all liars and cowards.
