@unboxedcharacter These balloons have been flying near Alaska for many years. I don't know of any cases where they flew across our sovereign controlled air space. All of the Communist regimes want to take oil out of the waters surrounding Alaska. This is the number one reason China constantly probes...everything pertaining to oil...and pushes sovereign nations out of their own territorial waters to claim it as their own and then to claim waters near Alaska are "international" and open to development (mining) by anyone. These liars talk about a balloon flying over Texas and then another over Florida during the Trump years. But what they don't say is precisely where. They probably stayed over International Waters (a legal term) and probe our response on the edge. This is something done with all kinds of aircraft every single day. Remember that after the Soviet Union collapsed Cuba turned to the CCP as its "vanguard party". For sure they launch balloons from in and near Cuba. And I bet Venezuela and now Brazil are going to be even more helpful to the Communist Revolution.

@unboxedcharacter There probably are dozens of these balloons that have probed International Waters surrounding Alaska. I don't know how many probed our adjacent sovereign airspace. But nothing like this has ever happened that I know of where they diagonally traverse the continental/contiguous USA after passing Alaska and then exit over the Atlantic. This was a successful mission for CCP and US Communists. Alaska to the CCP is very much like Taiwan except that they don't have a bunch of bogus stories about how Alaska "really belongs to China". They want to "normalize" the idea that it's open territory for energy and mineral exploration. Basically, Communists want to control the entire planet and haven't figured out how ever since WWI ended in a series of treaties. The Paris Peace Conference contradicts all of the "international workers revolution" prophecies. That's why Lenin pivoted to what they do now. Lenin is the one that created the operational framework for Fascism and Nazism.
