@danielgrantcoleman They're sworn in (oath of office for each new Congressional session) and their constituents are supposed to hold them accountable. Their constituents at least for half of them want them to lie. Think about it. The liars you see and hear are a problem and the ones who put them there are an even bigger problem.

@annasdad8008 The custom of "swearing on the Bible" is likely rooted in the content of the Ten Commandments. Especially the one that condemns lying. Swearing an oath on some random book is fallacious. And these leftists have a loose definition for what "lie" means. The oaths are now useless because as I alluded to elsewhere, our schools have created a bunch of Critical Theory sociopaths that think "lying" for the sake of "Punching Up" aka "Speaking Truth to Power" is all that matters in Social Justice. And notice that Speaking Truth to Power simply means according to all leftist philosophies, speech that "liberates the oppressed/enslaved" (including so-called "wage slaves") and has nothing to do with objective, universal truths. And virtually all of the founding fathers believed in the morality of the Bible even if they had various views on theology per se. They believed in its "morals" message. The rule of law is all about equal application of the law and agreeing upon which morals should be enforced by law and which should not. None of them admitted to agreeing with Leftist Jacobins' mantras like "Property is Theft". Usurious taxation was regarded as something resembling theft. Keeping your own legitimately acquired stuff was based on what they regarded as natural law and "revelation" morality.
