Jonathan and Leon's view that girls and women are supposed to conform to limiting, arbitrary, sexist stereotypes has been proven to have a direct effect on the lives and health of girls and women. It effects our education, career and economic prospects, it contributes to low self esteem, unhealthy relationships, addiction, eating disorders, body dysmorphia and self harm, ironically including medical transition. It even effects the space we take up and how we move through the world. If you had the same empathy for women that you have for a couple of conservative sexists, you might be able to call yourself a feminist.

  7.  @delilahjolie  I'm all for letting kids wear what they want and boys and girls expressing themselves however they wish. That's precisely my point. When you start calling boys she and her, or suggesting that they're girls just because they're effeminate that restricts the freedom of both boys and girls. It's literal sex stereotyping, which is sexism. Sexism is the entire problem, not the solution. My sister was bullied relentlessly just for being herself. These days you would 'socially transition' her to make her fit into the blue box, and to almost inevitably medically transition her to 'fit' further down the line. This is not the progress or freedom you think it is.

What's harmful is you selling the lie that 'trans' people can dictate and control what other people perceive, think, believe and say in order to make them feel better about themselves. That's not how human interaction or society works, and nor should it. Do you ever consider that 'trans' people might suffer depression because they're coming up against facts and reality and deep down they know they're not living authentically?

  25. People often confuse the sex stereotypes 'masculinity' and 'femininity' with being male or female. Women are in general physically weaker than men. This is one reason why women are oppressed on the basis of our sex, not our 'gender identity'. Men can in general literally overpower us and they take advantage of that to oppress us. We don't take safety precautions when walking at night because somebody has a male 'gender identity', but because men are male and can physically dominate us as females. As far as 'masculinity' and 'femininity' are concerned, they're just sex stereotypes. We all have human traits, characteristics, capabilities etc., not male and female ones.

It teaches children that they all have to fit into a neat box marked pink or blue, setting back all the advances made against sex stereotyping - ie. sexism - over the last decades, especially for girls.

Likewise only women can menstruate, go through menopause, get pregnant, choose not to get pregnant or have medical conditions where they can't get pregnant. Acknowledging that some human beings are female - hence women - is not 'reducing' women to their biology. It's acknowledging a simple fact. A woman is a female human being. The only way you could think that 'reduces' women is if you think being female is degrading. The irony is that you think defining women in terms of regressive, oppressive, sexist stereotypes, roles and expectations is a better, more 'progressive' way to define girls and women, as opposed to acknowledging that they're a female human being .And then to make matters worse you call that 'feminist'. What's the difference between sex stereotyping girls as 'tomboys' and sex stereotyping girls as 'transmen' or 'nonbinary'? All are based in the sex stereotype and roles imposed onto girls and boys.
