@nigelliam153 I agree that renewables would, in practice, be far more expensive than is currently claimed. But the OP said that the laws of physics meant that 100% renewables could not be done, which is wrong.

@nigelliam153 Oh and I don't agree with your 7hr assertion (unless you are talking specifically Australia, in which case I do not have the data to make a valid argument). I am UK based and here solar averages 12 hrs and wind appears to average around 30-40% of theoretical capacity over 12 months.
