Yes.

Mining coal generates radioactive waste. Mining rare earth metals for wind turbines generates radioactive waste. Unlike nuclear industry however, the waste from these operations is largely uncontrolled.

Please, you do the argument for nuclear power no favours by making false claims.

Not so. Both solar and wind offer huge potential, just not on their own.

@tadeuszmichaelwlodarczyk3120 The ongoing issue with storage is precisely why I say that solar and wind cannot meet electricity demand on their own. To suggest that neither is able to provide large quantities of clean energy to a grid however is nonsense. Wind (primarily offshore) produces an average 18% of UK demand and is growing. Solar; both PV and collection, could supply a good chunk of Australia's demand - it's not like land availability is in short supply! Use the tools available to you.

@tadeuszmichaelwlodarczyk3120 Whether climate change is false, overblown or the predictions are true is irrelevant. Pollution alone is a good enough reason to switch from fossil fuel use at the earliest opportunity.

@tadeuszmichaelwlodarczyk3120 Yawn, never heard that before. You expect them to change their system while we continue as usual?
1
@tadeuszmichaelwlodarczyk3120 No I am telling you that you cannot expect China, or any other country, to take on the cost of reducing fossil fuel dependence if we are not prepared to do the same.

@tadeuszmichaelwlodarczyk3120 China is one of the leading developers of Gen IV nuclear reactors. Their new coal stations are designed so that they can swap out the coal furnaces for SMRs when they come online.
