@xyves8488 Remind me? I am English. The Aussies are our cousins; we may fight like hell, but you couldn't ask for more than an Aussie to stand next to you when the chips are down.

@xyves8488 If speculation of "permanent" deployment of boats to Australian ports is more then just that, then maintenance in Australian yards would be desirable. There are loads of systems on board a submarine that require regular maintenance other than the reactor. One possible route for Australia could involve overseas deployment of US/UK submarines with co-opted Australian crewmembers. Assembly of "modules" built in Australia and either the UK or US followed eventually by full construction in Australian yards.

@xyves8488 Grow up

@xyves8488 No, you missed my point entirely (and I am a Pom not an American) You are going from zero to full capability and that is not going to happen overnight. The first step is to build up experience in the RAN, so if the deployment thing happens, working mixed crews would be a good thing (like the RAF crews working on the Aussie Wedgetails prior to acquisition) Your sub yards could build up experience on nuke boats by first maintaining stationed USN/RN subs then begin assembling the first (however many) RAN boats using modules made in the US/UK (maybe certain critical sections such as the reactor for example). Then as the yard gains experience it moves onto full construction. Seems like a logical way for Australia to both gain access to nuclear subs asap and develop a reliable, indigenous manufacturing capability?

@xyves8488 You are right, some people grow old but remain immature. Throwing insults when they have no argument is a sure sign of this.

I would say one thing (as a Pom). Go with the Astute or go with the Virginia, but for God's sake don't go with an Astute with US tech while trying to build an indigenous manufacturing capability. Your learning curve will be high enough without trying to integrate mismatched tech.

@slobodanpaunovic3834 Four Astute and two T-boats in service, one Astute working up to replace one of the T's. Two more Astute's under construction.

@rameshpudhucode6862 We have just built two rather nice fishing boats thanks, 65,000t each.
