  1. More likely it survived because its fall was broken by fine twigs from a tree or bush. There is precedence for this. I certainly know of one case where a WW2 bomber tail gunner left a burning aircraft without a parachute and survived due to passing through trees and landing in snow.

  8. I really hope Boeing are able to turn themselves around as they have made some iconic aircraft over the years. Unfortunately, like many US companies, they have forgotten that there are two sides to Capitalism, supply and demand. In their never ending search for increased profits they neglected to supply a decent product.

  11. If only there was a cost effective way to produce hydrogen. Oh, there is, nuclear. Nuclear is traditionally used for base load generation, where continuous operation increases efficiency and reduces costs. Solution? Make some of your capacity duel-use. At peak demand, make electricity. At low demand make hydrogen. Unlike renewables, where your hydrogen production is to cover periods of low generation, here the hydrogen can be sold as fuel.

  12. Couldn't agree more. I supervised operations in an energetics process facility and having a motivated, happy cleaner is every bit as important as having the most gifted materials scientist. If you want to end the day with a process facility and not a smoking hole in the ground!
