  5. Let's be clear. Russia has more nuclear weapons because they are allowed to have more under the START agreement. Why? Because more of their weapons are land based and therefore more vulnerable to a first strike. Both Russia and NATO have more than enough nuclear weapons to wipe each other out.

Shortages may indeed be common and not just in Germany, but for the government/military leadership to run down ammunition stocks to the point where ships have to sail into a conflict zone with insufficient ammunition is as unprofessional as it gets. There might be some excuse if this were weeks into a conflict, but this is the navy's first deployment.
