Sad, what has happened to Boeing. One of the greatest names in aviation development.

Great video as always. To me your best vocal delivery to date. I would still like it slightly slower, but I am an old fart, so humour me 🤣 Your presentation has improved massively and total respect for not going the digital voice route. You still manage to provide nuggets of information that I have missed and are well worthy of a subscription.

@jaex9617 Always listen at 0.75 myself.

Any excuse to show a Bucc is fine by me 🙃

Whirlwind

@andynct It's a Jaguar, look at the undercarriage and engine intake sizes for a start.
3
Actually this one isn't so bad. At least he has left gaps between sentences.
3
Which is precisely what it was designed for, to be able to operate while other aircraft were grounded.
3
Lost any credibility when you mentioned the Falklands war.
3
I always preferred the looks of the Hurricane, but then my favourite aircraft is probably the Ju52-3m, so what can I say? 🤣
3
Pardon? Every aircraft with reheat/afterburner has a higher heat output than the Harrier. The front exhaust nozzles emit much cooler air than the rear nozzles as they draw bypass air from the turbofan. While a supersonic fighter variant might have been nice, the Harrier did not require supersonic speed, it was a ground attack/CAS aircraft.
3
Ripping out the turret and placing the guns in the wing would have produced an equivalent to the Hurricane. One of the issues with operating the Hurricane (and Spitfire) in the night-fighter role was that flashes from the exhaust ports destroyed the pilots night vision.

@tomconneely1361 My best memory of the Vulcan at air shows was an early (for me) Mildenhall. Would have been '83/4 ish and the Vulcan displayed to a Clannad song. Not only did it howl, but when it turned it would suddenly become almost silent; leaving just the haunting melody and distant rumble of a thunder storm.
3
@budwhite9591 Why? Both are far more capable than the Tornado.
2
@B-A-L The 52 has personality, which goes a long way 🤣
2
They were going to, but they were also cancelled.
2
I attended Mildenhall air shows from 83 to around 96 and only two non-US displays made US service personnel stop and look up. The red arrows and the Vulcan.
2
Soilent Green True, German aerodynamics were more advanced. Engines were terrible though.
2
@sandervanderkammen9230 Not according to the test pilots who flew them after the war.
2
The "motors" are the same ones that went on to power the Concord and were later developed onto a marine turbine. So pretty reliable once the early teething problems were ironed out.
2
@sandervanderkammen9230 The Tornado was a joint venture developed by Britain, Germany and Italy. Panavia was formed to manufacture it and headquartered in Germany. It was however owned by all thee nations.
1
@sandervanderkammen9230 Wrong. The Tornado was a joint venture between British Aircraft Corporation (BAC), MBB and Aeritalia. Just as engine development was a joint venture between RR, MTU and Fiat. The joint company (Panavia) was registered in Germany as they were initially intending to buy the most aircraft, but it remained a joint venture.
1
He mentioned the EAP as one of the aircraft donating components to the X31? The EAP (or Experimental Aircraft Program) was the demonstrator from which the Eurofighter Typhoon was developed.
1
@bassetdad437 What do you mean as "Title picture"?
1
Not a fenestron tail rotor and your thumbnail is of a Sikorsky R4.
1
@WilhelmKarsten Repeating yourself now. Did you used to post under the name Sander? You sound as bitter as he was.
1
@WilhelmKarsten Not in the same thread, lad. Especially when you are repeating rubbish.
1
@WilhelmKarsten The Comet had 25 hull loss accidents, how many of those were actually the fault of the aircraft though?
1
UK was spending between five and seven percent of GDP on defence during most of the cold war, despite having been nearly bankrupted by WW2. Food rationing did not end completely until 1954, nine years after the war ended.
1
@CaptainQuark9 That's why I added the emoji, to show it wasn't a criticism of your comment.
1
The one who kills his opponent before they close to dog fighting range.
1
Soilent Green Love the Draken, The Hunter is hard to beat on pure aesthetics though.
1
@1993Crag In comparison to the Meteor though.
1
@terrysullivan1992 I used to do that, but I no longer have to 👍
1
Not questionable at all. The Harrier was designed specifically for the cold war in Europe; when it was expected that forward airfields in Germany and Norway would be subject to massive Soviet air and missile attacks. It's role was to continue the fight while other types were grounded.
1
No one, it just didn't perform as well as they hoped it would.
1
Would they have been allowed to build them?
