  2. Pardon? Every aircraft with reheat/afterburner has a higher heat output than the Harrier. The front exhaust nozzles emit much cooler air than the rear nozzles as they draw bypass air from the turbofan. While a supersonic fighter variant might have been nice, the Harrier did not require supersonic speed, it was a ground attack/CAS aircraft.

  3. Not questionable at all. The Harrier was designed specifically for the cold war in Europe; when it was expected that forward airfields in Germany and Norway would be subject to massive Soviet air and missile attacks. It's role was to continue the fight while other types were grounded.
