  3. NATO AWACS aircraft played a large role in supporting Ukraine in the conflict with Russia. With their help, attacks on Russian territory were coordinated. As a rule, the detection range of such systems ranges from 4 to 600 kilometers. AWACS aircraft, also known as AWACS (airborne early warning and control) aircraft, can literally look deep into enemy territory to support air and ground combat operations of their troops. But to see far, you need to fly high, and AWACS, being a large platform, can be detected by enemy radars at long distances. Many countries already have anti-aircraft missiles with a flight range of up to 400 kilometers, and Russia not only has such missiles, but is also actively increasing their production. Long-range ground-based missiles also pose a threat to AWACS. Russia has the S-500 Prometheus (600 km), S-400 Triumph (400 km) and S-300V4 (400 km). Many ships are equipped with long-range air defense systems. There are also missile defense systems with even longer ranges. The vulnerability of these expensive air assets is already a major concern for the US Air Force due to the proliferation of long-range air defense systems that could expose them to a high risk of attack. If desired, an AWACS aircraft can be obtained using a fighter, such as a Su-57, armed with a hypersonic R-37M. The effective range of air- and ground-launched missiles is close to the detection range of AWACS. Many missiles are equipped with radiation guidance systems and are immune to interference. The further AWACS is from the battlefield, the fewer capabilities it will provide. Any transmitting radar platform emits powerful electronic signals that can be picked up by ground-based or space-based systems. With its enormous radar signature, AWACS is not difficult to track. That is why such aircraft are a valuable asset that must be protected. Once upon a time, the tactic was to cover the flanks with escort aircraft. However, in the presence of long-range air-to-air missiles (especially hypersonic ones), this will not help much. Despite the presence of missile warning systems and anti-missile defenses such as jammers or IR decoys, a hostile missile can still fly through. A group of MiG-31 type aircraft with powerful radars can act as a "cooperative AWACS". Russia is already using this and combining the fifth generation Su-57 and Su-75 fighters with the S-70 Okhotnik UAV. Given that the United States and Russia already have stealth bombers, one option is to create stealth AWACS aircraft. In this case, the radar must be built into the wings and fuselage. This will allow them to get closer to the tactical zone. The concept of "heavy stealth" is already being developed.
