In addition the US imposed excessive retaliatory measures against Toshiba for selling certain machine tools to the Soviets, which at the time was in terminal decline, and basically forced the Japanese government to do the same. In reality it was a minor infraction by a relatively small subsidiary, but the US decided to go for the throat of the technological crown jewel of Japan.

  8. China exports twice as much to the global south than to the EU and US combined. If China could increase exports to the global south by 50% they could eliminate the EU and US market.
