Best thing is to demand that Chinese manufacturers produce the batteries and EVs in the US with locally sourced components. US going their own way is just a disaster waiting to happen.

@pendulmonium It's because of the political environment and not the reality of economics.

@ChuckNorrizzed BMW and Mercedes both have plants in North America.

@ChuckNorrizzed US has free trade agreements with Europe on automobiles, so it's not an issue. You have to remember that Audi and Porsche production numbers are not that high, so it doesn't make economic sense to produce them in the US. If there were tariffs companies would pass them on to consumers, who can easily afford them since the people buying these brands are more affluent.

Producers will keep producing until marginal revenue equals marginal cost. Chinese manufacturers have definitely not reached that point yet.

@fangzification The ICE ecosystem is going the way of the Dodo bird, it's inevitable. Having the technology and processing knowledge imported from China is the best option versus attempting to re-create this domestically, which is prohibitively expense and doomed to fail. I'm sure ferriers and wainwrights felt the same way in the late 1800s, but eventually they were replaced with others in the ICE ecosystem.

@ChuckNorrizzed Japanese and Korean brands produce all their cars for the US market in North America. Doesn't seem to be an issue.
