According to the Financial Times the UAE wanted to purchase 50 F-35 fighters, but the US made it contingent on removing Huawei 5G equipment. UAE decided to purchase 80 Rafale fighters instead claiming there were "few cost-effective alternatives to Huawei’s 5G technology" and didn't want to be "drawn into a new cold war between the US and China."

  4.  @covertpuppytwo3857  Actually he's correct. Huawei owns the majority of essential 5G patents. Both Ericsson and Nokia license them from Huawei under FRAND terms.

In order for their products to adhere to the 5G specification they MUST license essential patents from Huawei. It's the reason why the patents are offered on FRAND terms.
