@michaeljames2349 According to Wikipedia the upper limit of sovereign airspace is not defined by international law. In addition according to The International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety (IAASS) the altitude the balloon was operating at "is an indistinct region where it is not clear whether the operations that take place are covered by aviation or space conventions and treaties, in particular with reference to the freedom of overflight that applies to space orbital operations." You can stop with the strawman arguments, nobody is taking the bait...😂🤣😂🤣

You forgot the fuel and maintenance for the planes, they made multiple attempts, plus the cost to recover the salvage. When all said and done it cost the US easily a million dollars or more. Your tax dollars at work...🤣😂🤣😂

@covertpuppytwo3857 A 30 foot weather balloon cost $580 on ebay with shipping, so scale that up by a factor of ten. Add the weather instruments and helium, or hydrogen, and you're looking at $20,000 to $30,000. You know the Chinese are building these, not the US government where $400 hammers and $600 toilet seats are the norm...🤣😂🤣😂
