  1. I am willing to bet that this is only true for the US because you guys killed local commerce. Plastic bottles are more popular because you can close it to better preserve its contents for later, it is not rocket science. Glass is still superior in taste, which is why you see it in local commerces and such. That said, coca cola also uses reusable plastic bottles that are much thicker than the conventional ones. Not just because of the aforementioned reason but because storing more than 1 liter in a glass bottle becomes really inconvenient. Funnily enough, it also tastes better than the usual ones, 30% less sugar.
