You can ship sodium ion batteries with no issues

Cars in general are not eco friendly. Even the flinstons car would eventually turn cities into money pits because of all infrastructure required for cars. Think I am exagerating? My hometown has nearly one car for each citizen. All these cars need storage whenever you go and expensive roads that need to be constantly maintained. More cars mean more traffic jams/stress/polution etc, which raises expenses even more.

@Nellie-H an good electric bike that can do 30mph can be found at 1.5k usd these days. Ebikes trips are often 3 times longer than conventional bikes which makes them more practical. Range is decent for a urban commute, 50+ miles. If pedals aren't your thing then a talaria x3 goes for 3250 usd, 45mph but I believe you lose some range.

Keep your gas car and commute to work on an ebike (or a light emoto like a surron) and you will be doing more for the environment than a Tesla ever will. Solid state sodium-ion works well for these vehicles (cheaper, safer, faster to recharge, easier to recycle and so on). Energy density is a issue for these batteries but ebikes have limited range anyway.

Please no, I don't want to live anywhere near a place where car ownership is considered a human right.

@oneeyedgirl617 Toyota isn't actually that far behind on EVs. Their resistance to BEVs comes from the fact that Japan isn't exactly on good terms with China, the supplier of many of the raw materials used in batteries and electric motors. Like it or not, Hydrogen internal combustion engines is something that China can't do anything about it. They are also putting some serious money in ways to get rid of chinese raw materials on their EVs.

I wish, the government can't still figure out electric bikes to this day.

We have popular electric dirtbikes that weigh half as much as a motorcycle and competent ebikes that weigh a fraction of that. I find myself constantly wishing for ebikes to be taken seriously.

How about shipping batteries separately on specialized containers? The battery cell itself is very space efficient.
