Ginger Biscuit i seriously doubt reliability would be higher, in fact, i think it significantly worse to the point of being impractical unless you are considering a hybrid. Batteries are not tools designed for heavy intensive use and you gonna lose a lot of energy if those things heat up.

Tim Murphy you are still adding unnecessary complexity to achieve that with no real significant benefit, now if it was one of those ground drones designed to assist infantry on the other hand... A hybrid system in such a light and small vehicle built around a small rotary engine as a power generator could work very well. You could use a the combustion engine running as efficient as possible to provide a constant energy output and use battery to give it a quick boost, kinda the opposite way your civilian hybrid would work. It would be cheaper and the battery would be much more reliable since it would work under less stress. And if it needed to follow a vehicle instead of infantry, you could just raise the combustion engine load and output. And you could use it for power generation, i mean, why not, it is a power generator as well.

@timmurphy5541 i am still skeptical about it but i guess we will never know if we don't try it. But i would still keep a combustion engine for backup so it can recharge itself to prolong autonomy instead of adding more batteries.

The real question is if we should.
