Rip ebike boom. It could not be that bad because ebike laws are some of the most clueless pieces of legislation I ever seen, it would be nice for governments around the world to take these things seriously. Still many will have to die before the US starts taking bike infrastructure seriously.

If someone making those ebike laws is reading this: 1. Throttles are safer than pedal assist; 2. The wattage of the motor is meaningless, even your 250w motor will peak well above that for short periods of time; 3. Battery safety standards would be nice; 4. Pedals do nothing for safety. What helps is helmets and being lightweight. Even a Surron is bellow 150 pounds, well below the 236 pounds of a honda navi, one of the lightest motorcycles out there... in other words, much less energy involved during a crash; 5. Ebikes are, by far, some of the most sustainable means of transportation out there. It is imperative that these things continue to be as hassle free and as accessible as possible; 6. Each ebike commuter is not just one less car on the road, it represents potential tens of thousands of dollars in savings with public infrastructure; 7. What really saves lives is good bike infrastructure. One thing that could ease the bureaucratic burden tremendously is to have the entire ebike permit/license process happen online. Also, I think the general public could handle a 50mph speed limit with ease, since that's what you often see in surron-like bikes.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ukraine is buying tesla wrecks for their batteries since their army is now using ebikes.

@LakotaWarrior *bikes. Ebikes are a big thing in ukraine. Salvaging tesla batteries is better than dealing with China.

@alexnorth2452 60? No. 45mph bikes are pretty popular but if you want more than 50mph you gotta look for it or mod it yourself. Even a few electric unicycles are around that speed.

@FCE-dogs If we are talking about safety, the best to do would be to build bike infrastructure away from cars.
