To be fair, they figured out how to make stealth coating durable and they probably could use a little more room for an radar.

Ian Pederson too small, light and convenient for them.
29
@MightyJak555 such a waste.
14
It needs to take glock mags. And a bayonet mount.
12
I can only imagine having to carry those massive mgs during patrol everyday. Are they enough effective to justify the sacrifice of the poor man assigned to carry it?
11
Not expensive enough, maybe.
10
@johncothren8861 if I had to guess, not much r&d had gone into this one because a light turbodiesel hybrid motorcycle is well within their capabilities by now.
9
A better deal than 556 whose sole sin is to lack the speeds needed for ngsw. Heavy bullet=more penetration, less wind deflection. Large bore diameter= Less throat erosion, better burn at shorter barrels.
7
@Helperbot-2000 preventing cook off wouldn't be that hard considering the rest of that thing looks like a swiss clock but I suspect that the small changes in caliber where specifically to fine tune the round to address that issue without changing the overall design.
7
I think what we are really seeing is the failure of conscription service.
6
I have to say, a bullpup seems like a great idea for everything else except shooting prone and switching shoulders.
6
At least it could be rechambered for 6mm arc. More range and possibly reliability.
6
My guess is that you still get more energy but over a much longer period of time, aka strong but soft recoil. Or could be just cappy having trouble to control it.
6
The only aircraft that comes close to that that i know of is a a-29 super tucano, which weights about 7,000 pounds
6
@Imaxxd22 I don't trust what Putin says but it does not invalidate my point. Plus it's not like you get to choose in a war so I am reserving my judgement of russian command anyway.
5
More like a fully autonomous drone swarm but as buggy as a self-driving tesla.
5
The AR-18 must be the most copied rifle after the ak. Just so many rifles took inspiration from it.
5
Sounds like they need a 2nd ammendment
5
Similar, but 300blk is also meant to perform at supersonic velocities. Essentially you are consolidating the role of carbine and smg in the same weapon.
4
The real question is why don't we all have bottle openers on our rifles. Huge oversight.
4
I still think Sig went overboard with that cartridge to compensate for the shorter barrel. I mean, if it wasn't for it they could probably reduce the diameter of the bullet and get less recoil and more speed... assuming the rifle can handle it of course.
4
Or a sawed-off double barrel shotgun. More practical and also will make you look like madmax.
4
Because they want a more cool looking sidearm for CoD, you’re welcome.
4
@sarath431 what about beers, mate.
3
@shibblesshalzabot6320 1:7 twist should work better for longer, heavier bullets. At least that's what I keep hearing about.
3
@cm-pr2ys it's just 6.5 grendel necked down to a .243 caliber bullet. Think .243 winchester for the ar-15 but with less powder and more efficiency. It is also a long range cartridge.
3
Frankly? I don't see other countries adopting it. It's not a simple change of caliber, it also means a new rifle to handle it.
3
@richardscaggs5936 a standard TAR-21 and M16 should have about the same barrel length, which means nearly identical ballistics.
3
The air force wanted a m4 and that was a long time ago, I think. If it was today they would probably be using a bullpup carbine that does not actually need to be folded, ideally something in 556.
3
In my country snipers are called hunters.
3
@jayklink851 pistol rated powder. It burns quicker so you get a good speed in short barrels but get diminishing gains in longer ones. Plus higher bc and faster twist rates should improve its performance at range over 556 at lower speeds. You could probably push a 8" carbine to 200~250 meters without much issue.
3
Lee Cline mikhail never became a recognized poet as he wished for though.
3
@tetraxis3011 just have a few of those SOF guys train the few motivated guys in their military and share intel.
3
Check their ak-100 series, they are making even 556 versions and there is the ak-107 which they forgot to add recoil.
2
@Imaxxd22 do you really expect anyone to buy that special operation rhetoric?
2
Yeah, if it is ambidextrous and easy enough to clear a malfunction. I wish they weren’t so focused on weight though, being a bullpup and all.
2
@angrydingus5256 that's the easy part, but I suspect 556 will change as well. DoD asked hornady to develop a new cartridge for the ar-15 and they came up with 6mm arc (basically a necked 6.5 grendel)
2
these bikes should come with engines in a hybrid configuration. Since the main source of power is electricity, you can have a single gear for the engine keeping the entire thing relatively light and vastly improving range. It would also be easier to run on diesel since the acceleration comes from the electric motor.
2
@holeshotshane5692 not quite, 300 blk supers are a big deal as well, basically 762x39 for short barrels.
2
I remember a talk about how, as technology progresses, lasers could be used to blind enemy troops for life. I am afraid we already reached this point of technological advancement and thanks to AI weapons like this will be accessible to everyone for relatively cheap much like drones are now.
2
Because a stripped down humvee would be expensive compared to that thing. It is a 2.8l 4 cylinder engine after all.
2
The f-35 at least has radar. That alone makes it superior to my eyes, even if the a-10 could fire mini tactical nukes out of its cannon
2
6 arc mate. It's the best compromise available and was developed just for it.
2
Now that I think about it, you don't need a larger caliber to deliver more energy on target, what you need is a heavy bullet. It's simple physics, a heavier bullet is harder to accelerate but also harder to slow down. It's also a balancing act, you need speed to win against body armor and weight to conserve that speed at ranges. Ideally, you want a heavy long bullet, but if possible not fat (there are other reasons to want that but it is a serious compromise). Of course, I am sure someone at NGSW thought about that. What I don't like about it is that they are probably trying to compensate for that compromise with higher pressures.
2
My guess is that they do considering that the 556 cartridge is designed to be effective up to 300 meters. At that range, windage and bullet drop isn't too much of a issue so there is no need for special training.
2
Imagine invading a country in a tank and a civilian offers you a ride back home. BALLS OF STEEL
2
@teddy.d174 DoD is looking into 6 arc for the m4.
2
In truth, snipers are just so lazy that they hone their skills to the point where they never have walk to their target or double tap.
2
@paddlesailnitro1 yes it is, but the Defiant isn't a conventional coaxial rotor, it is a stiff rotor design based on composites. In theory it means it can go much faster before the blades can flex enough to hit each other.
2
@prophetofpuppets Plus, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the acog even has electronics to fry
