@Parture the aircraft industry should be focusing on hybrid tiltrotors instead. Even a small boost during take off would save you tons of fuel in the long run, especially in short flights, and you can charge the battery in forward flight, when gas turbines are much more efficient. It allows you to get away with smaller, more efficient engines as well. It would allow for cheap interstate air travel, for example.
