  3. What we should have is auxiliary electric motors on 1.0 liter cars and lithium batteries of the same size as the lead acid that ice cars already use. Need to do a overtake? An extra 30hp instantly delivered to the wheels for a minute is all we need. A 30 hp axial flux electric motor that only needs to turn on a few minutes can be very small, under 10kg (~ 22 pounds). Did I tell you that the thing can also work as a retarder so you can save the weight of the rear drum brakes as well? Fast charging? An order of magnitude easier and you can always use the ice engine to charge it on a trip. Battery replacement? Actually possible. Safety? A smaller battery is much easier to protect. Fuel savings? About a third, possibly more.
