Maybe you shouldn't dismiss range extenders so quickly because in this world weight and space savings compound quickly and it is usually more benefitial to have the same range in a smaller package for cost saving reasons. Maybe an overview of which one of these revisited designs would be more promising for that particular application?

  4. perhaps I am being an idiot but why not use the piston itself as a seal instead of putting so much effort into making a self sealing valve. I mean, two strokes do it.
