The writer thinks they are being clever as they dive deep into misconceptions but often these are only superficial dives into puddles of the authors' own limited knowledge and misconceptions. These articles are the equivalent of the pub know-it-all who after his third drink starts off a conversation no one asked for by saying "You know..." and proceeds to relate some info he half-remembers from wikipedia and a reddit thread.
