I think because Into Darkness was so much more offensive on so many levels in being a terrible reboot of arguably the best Star Trek film (Wrath of Khan) that people were more "meh." about this film hence the little criticism it received. The plot is extremely stupid but overall the film is just so forgettable unlike other bad films you can jump into and have a field day dissecting. The Kelvin Timeline just needs to fade away and never brought up again. Chalk it up as another Abrams failed attempt to cash in on nostalgia but without understanding the heart of the source material.
