The slow burn of LOTR both book and film (especially book) had a lot going on in terms of foreshadowing, character development, and world-building. You had memorable events - pursuit of the Black Riders, meeting Elves in the wood, struggling through an enchanted forest, meeting a mysterious being who aids them, getting nearly killed on Barrow Downs and all this before they got to Bree! But you felt like you had gone on a journey and had had a number of mini-adventures along the way. With ROP, the storytelling is mainly on the damn mystery boxes with the hopes the reveals will make up for the boring storytelling and lack of character development. There certainly hasn't been any memorable moments or much adventure in 5+ hours compared to the 8 Chapters in LOTR before Bree.

@comaiscool yeah, shows with a third of their budget don't look this cheap

I wish someone said "What are we fighting for? Weren't we complaining how bad it was here a few episodes ago? How about we go somewhere where we can get baths?"

sauron didn't make the 3 elven rings. In the First Age, Galadriel study under a Maiar who protected a forest realm with her magic. Lothlorien was like a reproduction of that forest. So, the lore more explains how she came by her powers and why she had an enchanted woods. This show makes no sense of her revenge-driven character will somehow become the wise seer of the 3rd Age.

It's Xena Warrior Princess budget level but at least with that you knew going in it was low budget

@michals5873 it's so bizarre that the scripts of these works are often self aware while their writers are not. ROP in particular shows that strong women are NOT a good thing as if you examine most of the decisions of the female characters they are mostly wrong, have dire consequences, or straight up evil

pretty much. And it doesn't end there. Because she got the Numenoreans to go along with the idea of pointing Halbrand on the throne as the Southland King, their Queen got blinded and they lost a number of people to a volcano. The expedition was ultimately a failure which Ar-Pharazon will no doubt exploit to seize power which eventually leads to the fall of Numenor. If Galadriel went to Valinor, Sauron would be floating aimlessly on the sea while Numenor would just keep on going.

It was a vision from Sauron to deceive Galadriel. She wakes up then no one mentions Season 1 again

@togucvinw7 yes and no. They were made with the knowledge that Sauron gave them to make rings of power great and lesser which is why he claimed ownership of them. However, he specifically did not have a hand in their making nor ever touched them. This was explicitly stated in the LOTR

@benjaminthibieroz4155 Galadriel also ignores all the people wounded around her after the volcano blew. She only helps Theo and Halbrand - Theo who is a kindred spirit in ruthlessness and Halbrand the Dark Lord who she had a bit of a fancy for

good point about Legolas not being the main character. Side characters can be closer to perfect as they are on the side. Main characters who are perfect are boring and can also be annoying. I was fine with Legolas but I still would cut out some of the goofy acrobatic stuff - shield surfing and oliphant slaying. As for Galadriel being the main character they haven't done a good job setting it for her

Pandering to shippers is the death of good storytelling as they don't care about good storytelling only that the characters they want to bang, bang. Seeing shipper tweets is another reason this show needs to be buried and forgotten.

I was saying this for months in the lead up to the show and now that it's come out it feels nice to be vindicated

These are the social media morons who think blocking/banning you is somehow owning you when all they are doing is showing they can't handle a difference of opinion and will run away at the first sign of it.

Mountains out of molehills - it's mainly a few looking for attention and one has their replies moderated (stunning and brave).

@blancfan1 how in the world did you even come to such conclusion? A video about Ghost of Tsushima (GoT - get it?) and comparisons with TLOU2 both recently released games and you thought Leo was talking about a TV show that ended dismally a year ago? Eh? How short was the bus that took you to school?

@blancfan1 ye olde "it was a joke" ripcord in 2020?

@blancfan1 Jokes should 1) make sense and 2) be funny. Work on your material

@akarbit3r111 but will it be remembered a few years from now? The original wasn't great but Tim Curry made it memorable and known by those who didn't even see it.

Japan doesn't need people to be offended on their behalf especially when those people know very little about Japan except for some niche anime they've watched. For example, no one cares about Geisha cosplay like Americans do every Halloween. Geisha is a profession not a race and they have photo studios where anyone can dress as a Geisha. Also many of those Halloween geisha girls and their detractors often both have no idea what they are talking about as more often than not the "geisha" is in a slinky Chinese dress.

The lore explains how Galadriel became this wise sorcerer in an enchanted forest. In the Silmarillion, she study under the Maiar Melian who protected the realm of Doriath, a forest realm, with strong magic in the First Age. Lothlorien is a recreation of Doriath protected by a similar magic learned from Melian. This Second Age warrior princess Galadriel makes no sense in this context. How is she going to stop her quest for revenge when we know Sauron is going to come back in the Third Age? She's been willing to hunt him for centuries after the War of Wrath when there hasn't been any rumor or orc sightings apparently. Yet in the lore Isildur was killed by orcs just a few years after the Last Alliance. There would signs a-plenty in the Third Age to keep this warrior princess busy especially when Witch King arrives.
